A separate database server for MariaDB is useful for busy eCommerce sites or sites with large, busy databases. You can offload MariaDB related work to the remote MariaDB server, letting the main server host just the front end web pages and letting the MariaDB server deal with serving the database.

This will enable shops with a large amount of SKU’s,  users, epos and multi channel overhead still serve pages to your customers quickly whilst carrying out multiple and complex MariaDB queries and operations. The dedicated and tuned MariaDB server can be replicated further if required.
